Google Maps Workshop
This is a special project that demonstrates the use of
the Google
Maps API, along with a Reverse
Geocode Toolbox.
You can use the following tool to look up addresses, get
more information about the locality, download extremely
precise GPS POI files (for your GPS device or Google Earth),
and get a precise, customized link to Google Maps.
This is a SourceForge project that is available as a Subversion repository
here.
This uses two different reverse geocode services. The default service
is the GeoNames
Project Reverse Geocode. It is a US-only
service, but is fairly complete. It has some accuracy issues
when it comes to street address numbers, but is pretty good.
The second is Nico
Goeminne's Reverse Google Geocoder. It seems to be more accurate at street level, and
is worldwide, but uses multiple Google Maps lookups, which means that it can use up the quota assigned to maps keys. For this reason, it is not my default implementation.
(This is using The GeoNames Reverse GeoCode.) Follow this link to use Nico Goeminne's Reverse Google GeoCode
